Import Technical Updates – SQLCentric v2.0.1
In order to ensure that our recent subscribers to SQLCentric v2.0.1 have a smooth and satisfactory experience with their evaluation, Pearl Knowledge Solutions, Inc. would like to bring you the following important technical updates and assistance, based on some our customers’ feedback.
These issues are rare and sporadic and occur only under certain conditions, in some environments. Many are not cause by SQLCentric application itself, but due to environmental or security settings. We have or will post shortly the below issues and resolutions on our FAQ section of our site. Please read carefully, to make sure whether or not they apply to you.
We apologize for any inconvenience if you encountered any of the below issues, and hope that this information will provide assistance for a speedy resolution. Please do not hesitate to contact us at techsupport@pearlknows.com for any questions or assistance you may need.
We have a new package available on our site: (please read through this update if necessary)
Installation:
Issue: When you install SQLCentric v.2.0.1, you get an install error: ‘the file C:\Documents and Settings\[user profile]\Local Settings\Temp\sqlcntinstall.out could not be opened’. Then the install program exits.
Cause: Either you installed from a network share, or your account didn’t have write access to the temp folder in the user profile.
Resolution: Copy the install executable locally, and install from local drive.
Or, download our updated v.2.0.1 package which redirects all installation work files to the SQLCentric installation folder. This will eliminate the above issue.
SMTP Email Alerts:
Issue: Some companies’ policies prevent the installation of a local SMTP service, for security reasons.
Cause: This only affected users who could not install SMTP servers locally, and downloaders prior to January 26, 2007. Previous software versions required that a local SMTP service be installed on the IIS box for Email Alerts.
Resolution: For 2.0.1 version already installed, download and apply our SMTP rollup package, available on our site at http://www.pearlknows.com/id18.html. Click on v.2.0.1 SMTP Rollup Package. Or, download the new package from our download page and reinstall.
a) Dynamic SMTP parameters - We are proud to make this feature available ahead of schedule. This update allows the user to set both the smarthost SMTP server address and port number, via the EMAIL OPERATORS module in the Administration Tool, and eliminates the need to install it locally. For those of you who do have a local SMTP server, the default is LOCAL, and the default port for smtp email is 25. Please make sure if using a network SMTP address that port 25 is not blocked by any anti-virus software.
b) How to use - In the SQLCentric Admin tool, click <<EMAIL OPERATORS>>. On the first record where you set the "from" operator, you see the new SMTP parameters. To set this, uncheck 'LOCAL SMTP', set the SMTP Server smarthost and port if applicable, and then click <Update>.
CPU Alerts w/SQL Authentication
Issue: In some environments, not all, when using SQL Authentication for a particular monitored sql server, you may receive continue alerts of High CPU.
Cause: This is due to a variant data type that is incorrectly calculated if not converted to an integer. The drill-down CPUStat.asp page shows the correct total and is not affected.
Resolution: For 2.0.1 version already installed, download and apply our SMTP rollup package, available on our site at http://www.pearlknows.com/id18.html. Click on v.2.0.1 SMTP Rollup Package. Or, download the new package from our download page and reinstall.
ODBC Error:
Issue: When you click on Drill-Down Pages: ‘Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified’/SQLCentricWeb/SrvProp.asp, line 41
Cause: Create Web Application must occur -Although this should happen automatically during the install, in some environments, it does not, possible due to IIS security settings.
Resolution: Therefore, you must go to IIS Manager, drill-down to the SQLCentricWeb folder web-site, right-click properties, and on the 'Directory' Tab click the <CREATE> button, and <APPLY> under the Application Settings section.
The Page Cannot Be Displayed
Issue: When you click on the Drill-Down Pages, you may receive ‘The Page Cannot Be Displayed’.
Cause: SQLCentric’s web component is an ASP application, and is disabled by default in versions of IIS 6.0 and higher.
Resolution: Load IIS from the Administrative tools in the Control Panel by clicking Start -> Administrative Tools -> IIS Manager (or loading the Control Panel, entering the Administrative Tools folder, and double clicking IIS Manager). Go to the Web Service Extensions tab, click Active Server Pages, then press the "Allow" button on the left
